Session: How can female leaders provide a supportive & encouraging environment for other women in a male dominated industry?

Many women use survival techniques to cope and continue working in traditional male dominated industries. Some are fortunate enough to have resources such as mentorship and supportive personnel to help them navigate this challenging environment. I will speak about the tools I have used in my career and the steps that I am taking to ensure that future female leaders are able to work in a safe and supportive environment while still being true to themselves and being accepted simply as they are. No woman should need to ‘adapt’ simply to be accepted based on her capabilities.

Key Takeaways

  • Buddy up a senior with a junior to help them navigate the work environment
  • Facilitate initiatives at university level to assist attracting females at an early stage of their career
  • It's ok to have used strategies and tactics for survival in this industry, but let's ensure future generations don't need to
